Iringa Municipal Council is part of Iringa District (Iringa Urban and Rural). It is among of eight Councils in Iringa Region, other Councils are Njombe Town Council, Kilolo, Mufindi, Makete, Njombe, Ludewa and Iringa District Council. Iringa Municipal Council lies between 7o South of Equator and longitude 35o degrees East of the Greenwich Meridian. The Altitude is between 1560 and 2000 meters above Sea-level. The Municipality covers an area of 176.987 Square Kilometers. Iringa Municipality is bordered by Iringa Rural District. Nduli Ward in the North West, Kalenga Ward in the West and Mseke Ward in the South West. It also bordered by Kilolo District, Magulilwa Ward in the south East and Mazombe Ward in East.

Iringa Municipality  counsel in collaboration with stake Holders,Intends to facilitate efficient and effective provision of sustainable Socio-Economic services   to its Residents.

Iringa Municipal council aspires a better and sustainable living standards to its residents 

According to the 2012 census, the population of the Iringa Urban District was 151,345.
