Mkinga District Council is one of 11 Councils in Tanga Region originated from Mheza District Council in 1/07/2007 . It is bordered with the Republic of Kenya to the North, Indian to the East, to the South bordered with Muheza and Tanga districts and to the West Korogwe and Lushoto. The total surface area of Mkinga district is 2,948 Km2 part of it is occupied with Umba game reserve the rest of the district comprises of agricultural land and pastures.
