JOB VACANCY 

JOB TITLE: Data Selection Officer

Responsible to: Data & Insight Business Partner 
No. of direct reports: 0
Location: Dar es salaam, Tanzania 
Deadline: 26th October 2020

Job purpose:
The post holder will implement data selections for direct communications to the VSO supporter base, following a documented process using Raiser’s Edge and Excel.

Responsibilities:

Data Selection 
● The post holder will be expected to manage the data aspects of some VSO fundraising and communication activities.
● Responsible for the effective and accurate selection and segmentation of data, including export routines using Raiser’s Edge and Excel.
● Current selection requirements and the process to select supporters are fully documented. 

Project Management
● Work with colleagues in other teams to provide and take feedback on counts, agree deadlines and know where to send the data in a secure and compliant manner.
● Plan and implement data selection projects to client satisfaction and resolve issues and conflicts in a timely manner.
● Potentially for new selections define the data requirement, steer the data briefing process, to ensure requirements are as clearly and tightly defined as possible. 

Data Protection & Security
● Ensure that all data selected and transmitted is in compliance with data protection laws and VSO data policies and meets the communication preferences expressed by the individuals being selected. 

Knowledge Management & Sharing
● Save final selections in Sharepoint location requested.
● Communicate any potential process improvements spotted, particularly any quick wins.

Other: 
● Work with other members of the Data & Insight team to help ensure the end to end selections processes are well documented and complete.
● To potentially cover a variety of data & insight day to day tasks as and when required after sufficient instructions.

● Data selections and analysis are free of errors and are consistent to client expectations.
● Ensure that no project undertaken breaches data protection law of VSO’s data policy.
● Robust procedures and documentation are produced and maintained.

Skills Required
 
Essential:
● Substantial experience producing complex and segmented data extracts from Raiser’s Edge queries.
● Substantial experience of handling and manipulating large data sets using Microsoft Excel.
● Experience as an internal supplier to direct marketing or fundraising teams and can coordinate data selection projects and activities involving multiple teams and differing time lines.
● Working knowledge of data protection laws and experience of running data selections that are compliant to those laws and organisational data policies.
● The ability to work across teams and communicate complex information in a digestible way.
● Proven ability to prioritise and schedule a range of short-term, medium-term and recurring tasks.
● Excellent attention to detail. 

Desirable:
● An understanding of charity sector codes of conduct/ best practice and how these impact on data management.
● Demonstrable understanding of direct marketing techniques and audience segmentation with a history of successfully applying these principals to a variety of marketing activities.
● A positive, solutions-focused approach to issues resolution.
