According to the 2012 Population and Housing Census, the Council has a total population of 273,075 (138,846 females; 134229 males), however the group of people working to work and help boost the country's economy is about a dozen residents. 183,411. the dependent population is a total population of about 89,892; this includes the elderly and children.
There are two communities that make up a large percentage of the population living in it: the Nyamwezi and the Sukuma. Commercial crops grown in the area are cotton and tobacco, while the food crops are maize, rice, nuts, beans, sweet potatoes and other small crops.
